Citizen Science Programs
You, too, can contribute to scientific discovery! Based on programming developed for Girl Scouts USA by SciStarter, learn how to sharpen your observation skills, how to make scientific observations and the many, many citizen science project options from worms in the ground to stars in the sky. This program can be done for a variety of ages.
Solar System Stroll
Take a "Solar System Stroll". This temporary exhibit allows you to walk through a scale model of the solar system in both the size of the planets and their distance from one another. Each explorer will receive a Solar System Passport before they depart on their journey. Travelers will start with the sun (the size of a play ball) and continue on to visit each planet in our solar system. At each stop there are planetary details and a stamp to put into your passport to prove you visited. Watch out for the asteroid belt between the inner and outer solar system! If travelers visit all the stops, they are rewarded with an "I explored our solar system" button at the end of their journey. This is a self-guided tour so people can go through at their own pace or come and go as they need to.
Paper Stomp Rockets
Made from a sheet of paper, these rockets teach students the basics of rocketry while letting them launch safely over and over again. This beginning rocketry program is good for grades 3-5.
LEGO to the Moon!
This ten-week program guides students through a series of LEGO challenges while they learn about the upcoming NASA Artemis missions to the moon and on to Mars. This program can be adjusted for a variety of school ages.
Dark Skies Rangers
Through this Globe and Night Program, young people learn about the importance of dark night skies to all Earth's inhabitants, ways they can help make the skies darker, and perform citizen science on dark skies. All participants earn a "Dark Skies Ranger" patch. This program can be adjusted to suit a variety of school-aged students.
